ALPOLIC MCM Contributes to the Futuristic Look of Epcot's Newest Attraction

April 17, 2023

The Marvel Cinematic Universe creates undeniable excitement for each new installment that brings their comic book inspired properties to the big screen. This spring, fans of the MCU will enjoy further adventures when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 opens May 5. The superhero team of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Kraglin, Nebula, Mantis, Rocket and Groot have also inspired one of the newest attractions at Walt Disney World’s Epcot, an indoor roller coaster housed in a facility clad with ALPOLIC MCM.

Cosmic Rewind And MCM Are A "Marvel"

Opened in late May, 2022, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is not only the first roller coaster ride to feature at Epcot, but it is the first ride at Florida’s Walt Disney World based upon Marvel characters. The show building housing the dark ride is one of the park’s original structures, and held two previous attractions. In 2017, plans to upgrade the theme park with an attraction inspired by Marvel, a Disney property, were announced at the annual D23 Expo that same year and renovations began soon after.

Retrofitting Transforms An Established Structure

Rather than demolish the original building, the Disney design team opted to retrofit the structure  which often provides a more sustainable, cost-effective, and faster build. The previous facade was stripped and in their place, installation crews set up four different ALPOLIC colors on the front entrance of what is now called the Wonders of Xandar Pavilion. Metallic Champagne, Mica Grey, and a custom Grey finish give the pavilion a sleek appearance that connects the futuristic theme of the ride to the overall style of other attractions at Epcot’s World of Discovery neighborhood. Prismatic Harvest Moon MCM, used in the starburst design on the face of the building, hearkens to the Guardians’ Starblaster ship which stands at the entrance to the attraction. ALPOLIC Prismatic Finishes provide an other-worldly visual that can change colors with just the viewing angle.

Cosmic Rewind accommodates a maximum capacity of two thousand riders an hour. Choosing the right materials is incredibly important with tens of thousands of people passing weekly through the entrance of the Wonders of Xandar pavilion. Premium ALPOLIC finishes are durable enough to withstand high foot traffic and will maintain strong color consistency for years. The superior flatness and smooth surface of the rigid metal composite materials also allow Epcot staff to easily clean away dirt, pollen and fingerprints.

ALPOLIC and Specialty Applications

High-profile, large-scale projects like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind benefit from the longevity of color and ease of fabrication offered by ALPOLIC MCM. Sometimes a design calls for a unique appearance and finishes that shine or even change color when viewed from different angles. ALPOLIC’s ability to customize colors and produce MCM panels a fabricator can perforate, roll, bend, or fashion into any shape helps realize high-profile retrofit projects.

Coupled with the best warranty in the industry, ALPOLIC is the perfect choice for specialized entertainment design. Exceptional projects demand exceptional materials. Order your free samples today
